Amitabh Bachchan

If there is one name of Indian Cinema that is known in every home in India and far and wide across the world it has to be Amitabh Bachchan. He is the most successful superstar of Indian film industry - called Bollywood. Three time national award winner Mr. Bachchan was born on 11 October 1942 to Harivansh Bachchan.

In the 70's he was called 'angry young man' of Bollywood for his action flicks and acting skills of creating revolution in the minds of people. This gentleman's life has been through lots of ups and downs. Though today he is often considered the biggest star of the Indian cinema but he had to face harsh struggles throughout his life as well. His early career from 1969-72 was the toughest period of his life with some major flops and not good role. But the turning point of his life occurred with Zanjeer a film by Prakash Mehra which never let him turn back.

The actor holds the record of most number of best actor nominations at the Filmfare awards and he is not only limited in the field of acting only. Along with playback singer he was a successful TV host and pioneered the provisions for film stars to fine space in small screen. He also had a small sting of political career too when he was elected a Member of Parliament from 1984-87. He was considered a close pal of former Prime Minister of late Rajiv Gandhi.

The Padma Bhusan awardee, which is the third largest civilian honor in India, Bachchan has been awarded the superstar of Millennium in 2000 at the annual Filmfare awards function. Today he is actually doing the best phase of acting in his career with experimental roles. Since Indian cinema has come of age, so has this legend of Indian Cinema.
