Gulmarg was founded by the British during their reign in 1927. Gulmarg's real name was Gaurimarg, which the herders here gave it to this place. In the 16th century, Sultan Yusuf Shah named it Gulmarg. Today it is not just a mountainous city but it is the world's largest golf course here and the country's leading ski resort.

Places to see

Gulmarg Golf Course is one of the world's largest and green golf courses. The English used to spend their holidays here. They had established these golf courses in 1904 for golf enthusiasts. Currently it is overseen by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Authority.


For those interested in skiing Gulmarg is not only in the country but it is counted in the best skiing resort of the world. After snow fall in December, a large number of tourists come here to ski. They can get experience of skiing on slopes here. This is also the right place for those who are starting to learn skiing. There are also all the facilities for skiing and good trainers.

Khulnamarga is a beautiful valley situated in the springs of Gulmarg. The beauty of wild flowers in the green plains is made here. The wonderful view of the Himalayas and the Kashmir Valley can be seen from the blossom of snow from the blossom.

Lake Alpath

Surrounded by pine and pine trees, this lake is located below the fringe peak. The water of this beautiful lake remains snowy till mid-June.
Nungali Nallah

Nungali Nallah, located eight km from Gulmarg, is a stream which is made from the peak snow and ice from Alpatar Lake. This white stream falls into the valley and eventually joins the Jhelum river. This stream, flowing along the valley, is a famous picnic spot from Gulmarg.
